Culture & Economy: Stakes And Opportunities Of Cultural And Creative Enterprises In Belgium (4:30 pm - 5:30 pm)

“Culture means Business? Creative and cultural enterprises in Belgium: challenges and opportunities”.

 

“No economic growth without art!” - This statement still scares people off even if artists and leading representatives of the business community have long been following new paradigms. And that's exactly thewedding of opposites that Kurt Salmon explored by studying the dynamics of creative and cultural enterprises in Belgium. More and more individuals turn to the purple economy, a new alliance between culture and the economy. They face specific challenges in terms of skills, access to finance, digital shift, copyright, innovation, customer experience, internationalization. How can the public and private sector help the cultural ecosystem flourish? How to improve the impacts of culture in the economy and our society? More than 200 responses to our online survey and 60 qualitative interviews with key actors of each sector allowed us to understand how entrepreneurs are approaching the challenges of doing business in the cultural and creative fields in Belgium.

The results of this study will be presented during this exclusive event in Brussels at The Egg, a creative Living Lab and where Culture & Business come together to Innovate

Socioloog Marc Elchardus en filosoof Bleri Lleshi leggen Pascal Smet op de rooster

Niet minder dan 24% van de Brusselse bevolking is jonger dan 20 jaar. Dat brengt heel wat uitdagingen met zich mee. En kijken sociologen, filosofen en politici op dezelfde manier naar deze uitdaging?

Op maandag 30 januari organiseert Curieus Brussel in de Spiegelzaal van De Markten een debat rond het thema “Jong in Brussel”. Brusselaar Pascal Smet (sp.a) wordt uitgedaagd door socioloog Mark Elchardus en filosoof Bleri Lleshi. Beide academici formuleren telkens drie uitdagingen voor Pascal Smet. Na het debat met de drie sprekers zal ook het publiek in debat gaan met de uitdagers én met Vlaams Minister van Onderwijs, Gelijke Kansen, Jeugd én Brussel.
